DESERT BOOTS

Ok so.. To keep my mind off shopping and ladies apparel I have cast my mind aside to men's footwear (a guilty pleasure of mine..) As It has only been 6 days since lent began & i'm already pulling my hair out that I cannot shop!

In the office we have just signed off the mens footwear product for Autumn/Winter'11 & the most desirable trend highlighted for me is the Desert boot. It's not a shoe I have really payed too much attention to before but i'm really starting to warm to it!

First created in 1949 by Nathan Clark, of the famous family dynasty, the desert boot has remained virtually unchanged since its launch in 1950 at the Chicago Shoe Fair.
The inspiration for the original was a rough suede boot made in Cairo's Old Bazaar for British officers during World War II.

Nathan Clark, who now lives in New York, made the first pair in 1949 - five years after he spotted British soldiers in Burma wearing a similar design.
But it was almost 15 years later that the shoe first went on sale in Britain and Europe.
The shoes were an essential fashion accessory for any scooter boy worth his salt in the early 1980s.

Although still designed at Clark's headquarters in Street, low production costs in Asia mean they are now produced in Vietnam.

The 1969 tagline for the Clarks Desert Boot in the New Yorker reads: "The off-beat casual for up-beat intellectuals".

Since then, they have spotted on some of the world's biggest stars on red carpets, as well as international music and film events, selling over 12 million pairs worldwide.

In 2009 Clarks marked the 60th anniversary of their iconic desert boot with six limited edition pairs which reflect every decade of the shoe's success..

Other brands/designers who have also produced their interpretation of the 'Desert' boot, some of which include:
  • Roamers
  • Nike 6.0
  • H by Hudson
  • Acne
  • Ask the Missus
  • A.P.C

Don't forget to look out for them @ very.co.uk when they go live on sale at the end of this summer.

Peace & Love..
